Have you ever had a list of things to do but weren’t sure how to get them completed by a certain date? Well, this is where setting goals can be very helpful. Author Zig Ziglar referenced this idea by saying … “If you want to reach a goal, you must ‘see the reaching’ in your own mind before you actually arrive at your goal.” Goals are important for people in any profession including those in web development.
Suppose your client has a large project for you to complete. You have agreed to complete it by a certain date. One of the first tasks would be to divide the project into smaller parts and create a time frame (e.g., an estimated time to complete each part) resulting in a schedule for the larger project. When the smaller parts are complete, one can compare their completion time against the original estimation to provide a picture, in a sense, of the total completion time to know if you are on schedule to complete the larger project on time; or if adjustments are needed.
The following quote by the Lebanese American artist and poet Kahlil Gibran, makes reference to this topic … “The significance of a man is not in what he attains but in what he longs to attain.” And I feel this belief is beneficial for women as it is for men.
